Year 9

Vision Statement

For Year 9 students to be able learn strategies to improve coping with challenges and disappointments that arise and begin to understand that change is a part of living. To have the confidence to tackle solving problems and take risks and to not see failure as only negative. For students to value the importance of making connections throughout their community as a vital strength in building their resilience.

How do we support the social-emotional learning of year 9 students?

The personal development curriculum in Year 9 focuses on students learning strategies to improve coping with challenges and disappointments that arise, develop their confidence to tackle problems and take risks, and value the importance of making connections throughout their community as a vital strength in building their resilience.

  • Weekly Homegroup – strengthening sense of school belonging
  • RESPECT classes (based on Positive Education and Respectful Relationships)
  • Year 9 REACH – peer dynamic workshops facilitated by The REACH Foundation designed to build self-awareness, empathy, and resilience by exploring the complex dynamics of adolescent relationships and identity.
  • Year 9 Project Rockit – Year 9 students participate in Project Rockit, a dynamic workshop designed to empower young people to stand up against bullying, create inclusive spaces, and lead positive change.

What is the learning program at Year 9?

Year 9 students are encouraged to take risks in their learning, try new subjects, and find out more about how they learn best. Elective subjects are a chance to experiment, explore and have a say in your own learning. The subjects you choose can help you to discover your interests and find out what you might want to do once you graduate from school. There are more opportunities to try out a range of subjects in the middle school years than in senior school.
