Year 7 I Discover
-
During Homegroup sessions, Year 7 students engage in interactive activities aligned with the theme ‘I Discover’. These sessions are designed to help students explore their individual strengths, values, and interests, as well as gain a deeper understanding of those around them. Through these activities, students continue to build social and interpersonal skills while developing curiosity about the world and their place within it.
-
Year 8 I Explore
-
In Year 8 Homegroup sessions, students explore the theme ‘I Explore’, which encourages them to investigate a variety of occupations and understand how different roles contribute to society. These sessions help students consider potential career pathways, develop an awareness of the opportunities available to them, and begin connecting their personal interests and strengths to future possibilities. The program supports informed decision-making and broadens students’ understanding of the working world.

Year 9 I Focus

Year 9 My Career Insights, Morrisby program
As part of the My Career Insights program, Year 9 students participate in the Morrisby assessment to support their career development journey. This program helps students gain a deeper understanding of their strengths, interests, values, and aspirations, and how these align with potential career pathways. The insights gained assist students in making informed decisions about their senior subject selections, including whether to undertake a VET course in Year 10. Additionally, the program plays a key role in helping students plan meaningful work experience opportunities in Year 10. Students can also take part in TAFE taster days, providing valuable insight into further education and training options -
Year 10 I Plan
-
In Year 10, the theme of ‘I Plan’ focuses on supporting students to make informed decisions about their future pathways. Through a range of practical and engaging activities, students plan their VCE subjects and explore which VCE stream best suits their goals and interests. They also have the opportunity to begin a VET course, gaining hands-on experience in a chosen field.
The program includes participation in the Work Experience Program, resume writing, interview skills workshops and a mock interview, and access to career counselling sessions to support individual planning. Students can also take part in TAFE taster days, providing valuable insight into further education and training options.

Year 11 I Decide
-
In Year 11, the ‘I Decide’ program supports students as they begin to take greater ownership of their future pathways. Through structured activities in Homegroup sessions, students build on the knowledge and self-awareness developed in previous years to set clear post-school goals and directions. They apply decision-making and problem-solving skills to explore options related to further education, training, and employment. Students are introduced to a range of career development resources, including online tools, and are encouraged to identify key support networks to assist them in achieving their aspirations. Guest speakers, targeted programs, and opportunities such as the VCE and Careers Expo provide valuable insights into post-school study and work options, helping students make informed decisions about their futures.
-
Year 12 I Apply
-
In Year 12, the ‘I Apply’ theme empowers students to take meaningful steps toward their post-school goals by applying the knowledge and skills they have developed throughout their secondary journey. Each student will participate in a one-on-one pathway meeting with a member of the Careers Team to receive personalised support with VTAC applications, including guidance on Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS), scholarships, apprenticeships, traineeships, and employment options. Information sessions are provided to prepare students for life beyond school, covering a range of options such as further study, employment, apprenticeships, traineeships, and GAP year opportunities. External agencies are invited to present valuable insights into these pathways. Students also receive support with practical skills including resume writing and interview preparation, ensuring they are well-equipped for their next steps.
The Careers Team is available to support students when VCE results are released, helping them make informed decisions based on their outcomes. They provide step-by-step guidance through the Change of Preference process, ensuring students maximise their chances of receiving a tertiary offer that aligns with their goals and results.

Career Action Plans
-
All students from Year 7 to Year 12 are expected to engage with a Career Action Plan (CAP) as part of their career development journey. For students in Years 9 to 11, completing their CAP is a required step before subject selection. This process allows subject advisors to provide tailored guidance based on each student’s identified goals and aspirations.
The Career Action Plan helps students reflect on their past experiences and achievements, discover their strengths and talents, explore the world of work and their place in it, identify their values and interests, decide on their career and learning goals, and take meaningful steps toward achieving them. By reflecting on their CAP, students are empowered to make informed decisions about their education and future pathways.

Senior Subject Selection/Course Advising
-
Students in Years 9, 10, and 11 will meet with a school Course Advisor prior to selecting subjects for the following year. During these sessions, Course Advisors review each student’s Career Action Plan (CAP), consider their academic achievements, and discuss their interests and aptitudes. This ensures students are selecting the most appropriate subjects to support their future pathways and meet any compulsory prerequisites, where applicable. Our VET Coordinator is also available to speak with students interested in pursuing Vocational Education and Training options. Course Advisors are experienced educators from across a range of academic areas, including Learning Specialists. Parents are welcome to attend course advising sessions, with details and scheduling information communicated via Compass.
-
Work Experience Program
-
Year 10 students have the valuable opportunity to participate in the Work Experience program. This short-term placement allows students to gain first-hand insight into various industries and workplace environments. During their placement, students observe daily operations and learn about different roles while being supervised at all times. Although they are not expected to perform skilled tasks, the experience helps them become familiar with workplace expectations and the responsibilities involved in specific occupations.
Students will receive detailed information about the program during a dedicated assembly. Before starting their placement, all participants must complete the required safety modules to ensure they are well-prepared.
Connecting with the Careers Team
The Careers Team welcomes the opportunity to engage with students to support them in their career planning, educational journey, and work goals. Students are encouraged to book an appointment with a member of the Careers Team via the Careers website or simply drop into G4 for a chat. Most communication is shared with students through Microsoft Teams, so we encourage students to regularly check posts and stay informed about upcoming opportunities, events, and important updates.
