Sport

Students are given many opportunities to be physically active at Box Hill High School through both timetabled classes and extracurricular activities.

Whole School House Sport Events

Box Hill High School holds three whole school sport events during the year – Swimming Carnival, House Cross Country, and Athletics Day. Students participate to earn house points, and their individual results determine our representatives for the respective interschool competitions.

Interschool Sport

Throughout the year, there are opportunities for students to represent Box Hill High School at a variety of interschool sport competitions. For all team sports, students self-nominate and depending on numbers, they will attend trials and trainings before competing against other local schools in a round robin.

Some of the key sports we participate in are netball, basketball, soccer, AFL, volleyball, badminton, tennis, cricket, table tennis, and baseball.

Government school competitions are run by School Sport Victoria. For detailed schedules, event dates, and specific information about each sport, you can refer to the School Sport Victoria – Whitehorse Secondary page.

Physical Education

Physical Education is a core subject in Years 7-9, and students participate in three periods across the fortnight. The focus is on building confidence and skills in a wide variety of areas to encourage lifelong participation in physical activity.

Year 7 and 8 Sport Education

All students in Year 7 and 8 participate in one period per week of Sport Education. Students are placed into small teams within their house groups and participate in a new round robin each term in a range of different sports. The focus is on teamwork, game scoring/umpiring, and being physically active.

Year 9 Sport Elective

Students in Year 9 can elect to complete Sport as a timetabled subject, which is five periods per fortnight. They have ample opportunities to play sport in small teams, while developing skills in umpiring and competition management.

Lunchtime competitions and casual play

As well as our structured activities above, students are encouraged to make use of our indoor double gym during both recess and lunchtime every day for casual play. At different times during the year, we run lunchtime competitions, including staff vs student events and house championships.
