Moving from primary to secondary school
The enrolment process for government secondary schools is facilitated by primary schools during the Grade 6 year.
It is the Primary School Transition Coordinator’s role to assist parents with the placement process for enrolment at a government secondary school.
Moving from a government primary school to a government secondary school
- From the beginning of Term 2 (Grade 6 year), the Year 7 Placement Information Pack for Parents/Carers (including Placement Request Form) is issued by the Victorian Department of Education and distributed to families by your child’s primary school. Completed forms must be returned to the student’s primary school by mid-May (exact date communicated to families by their child’s Primary School).
- It is the primary school Transition Coordinator’s role to assist parents with the application process for enrolment. The Primary School will inform parents of the application outcome by mid July of the Grade 6 year. Should your child be offered a place at Box Hill High School, we will be in touch during the weeks following. At this time, documentation will be requested to verify the student’s permanent residential address within the Box Hill High School zone.
Moving from a non-government primary school or home schooling to a government secondary school
For placement in Year 7 at Secondary School, you will need to:
- Download the ‘Placement Information Pack‘ from the Victorian Department of Education (available Week 1, Term 2).
- Use Find my School to locate if Box Hill High School is your zoned secondary school.
- Complete the Placement Form and email to year7enrolment@boxhillhs.vic.edu.au by mid-May (dates will be available on the Placement Information Pack provided in your child’s Grade 6 year).
- You will receive notification via email directly from Box Hill High School, usually by around mid-July of the Grade 6 year, of the outcome of your placement request. Should your child be offered a place at Box Hill High School, we will be in touch during the weeks following. At this time, documentation will be requested to verify the student’s permanent residential address within the Box Hill High School zone.

Moving into Year 7 from interstate/overseas
Parents of future Year 7 students who are not currently living in Victoria may only submit an enrolment enquiry once they have arrived and are permanently residing within the Box Hill High School zone.
Students moving into our zone who are not enrolling through the primary school Year 6–7 transition process are asked to complete the Enrolment Enquiry Form.
