Year 10

The curriculum for Year 10 includes a wide range of over 25 electives.

Students can focus their studies to a significant degree towards areas that align with their interests, talents, and planned future study and pathways beyond school, with only English, Mathematics and Science compulsory. Many students can study a VCE or VET subject in Year 10.

The personal development curriculum for Year 10 focuses on students learning to and consistently practicing mindfulness to develop focused attention. It is hoped that students find this strategy valuable in managing the increasing academic pressures of senior years studies and the influences of social media.

Year 10 student leaders contribute to the school by organising student events, creating homegroup lessons, and mentoring Year 7 students as part of the transition program.

Year 10 Programs

Students chose one of these year-long programs:

Duke of Edinburgh Program

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is the world’s leading youth development program, empowering all youth to explore their full potential. The Award equips young people for life and work, challenging them to find their purpose, passion and place in the world while enhancing their educational and employment opportunities.

Students in Year 10 at BHHS can enter the Award at the Silver Level. To complete the Silver Level students must set and complete three goals in the areas of Physical Recreation, Skill Development and Voluntary Service. Students also complete an Adventurous Journey, which is completed over two camps in the outdoors, a one-night camp in May and a three-night camp in December.

Momentum Program

The Momentum Program is an applied learning, personal development subject that runs during Wednesday afternoons. It aims to prepare students with personal skills and attributes that will propel them into success in their senior school years. All Year 10 students not completing the Duke of Edinburgh program or a VET subject study the Momentum Program.

Each term has a focus: Belonging, Life Skills, Community Service, and Physical and Mental Health and Wellbeing. The program combines indoor and outdoor learning activities with a focus on personal growth and skill development. It challenges students to expand their horizons and develop themselves as active members of the community. Students develop their leadership and teamwork skills, physical and mental health and wellbeing, study skills, peer relationships, and explore possible career pathways.

Year 10 Tomorrow Man and Women

As part of our wellbeing and personal development program, our Year 10 students participate in the Tomorrow Man and Tomorrow Woman workshops. These dynamic and engaging sessions are designed to challenge traditional gender stereotypes and encourage young people to explore what it means to be a respectful, authentic, and emotionally intelligent individual in today’s world.

Led by skilled facilitators, students are given a safe space to have honest conversations about identity, relationships, emotional expression, and societal expectations. The Tomorrow Man program focuses on redefining masculinity, helping young men break through outdated norms and embrace vulnerability, connection, and healthy communication. The Tomorrow Woman program empowers young women to reflect on the pressures they face, build self-worth, and support one another in becoming confident, resilient individuals.

These workshops are an important part of our commitment to developing socially aware, emotionally capable, and respectful young adults.
