Library

The library is the heart of the school!

Box Hill High School places a lot of value on reading. We have two qualified teacher librarians to support students in their learning.

Students can access e-readers and audiobooks plus a large and up-to-date collection of novels.

Book Week

Book Week is huge at BHHS. So many events run during the week including:

  • Shadow Judges final decision
  • Write a Book in a Day events
  • Whole school dress-up day inspired by the Book Week
  • We host a huge morning tea for over 100 of our top borrowers, shadow judges, and library leaders. Great prizes awarded like new books, book vouchers and lucky door prizes!

Write a Book in a Day

We also run Write a Book in a Day each year. Love writing or illustrating? Then this might be for you!

For the past five years, BHHS has taken part in Write a Book in a Day – a fabulous day supporting The Kids Cancer Project charity. Teams of 5-10 students write, illustrate and publish a book in 12 hours, running from 8:00am to 8:00pm. These fun stories are sent to kids in hospitals around Australia. No planning or preparation is needed. Past stories are on display in the library and hundreds of students take part.

BHHS Writing Club

If you would like to write and see what other writers are doing, then come along to Writing Club, running every Wednesday lunchtime.

Puzzle Club

Students can complete puzzles for fun, to relax or to train for the Victorian Jigsaw Championship where teams of four race to complete a puzzle against other schools. Runs Wednesday lunchtimes.

Knitting and Crochet Club

Runs every Friday at lunchtime. We have knitting needles, crochet hooks and wool – beginners and experts are both welcome. Not sure how? We can teach you!

Board Games Club

Every Wednesday lunchtime, come in and have fun with your friends with new and classic games.

Breaky and a Book Club

Join a team of awesome readers who love books, help to recommend books and help select the new books for our library! Runs 8:00am to 8:40am every Wednesday morning. Come and have hot chocolate with us.

Magazine Club

If you want to learn about photography or love writing, join Magazine Club. We meet a few times per term and the photos and articles we create go into CROSSROADS, the BHHS Yearbook.

Chess Club and Tournaments

Anyone can come and play chess every day. In 2025 there are two school chess tournaments and two interschool tournaments with other local schools. Look out for posts on Compass and sign up in the library.
