Box Hill High School is proud to have been named Curriculum Leadership School of the Year (Secondary) at the 2026 ResourceSmart Schools Awards, recognising our commitment to embedding sustainability across learning and school life.
This outstanding achievement is the result of the dedication and passion of our student Sustainability Club, led by Sustainability Coordinator Ms Bec Kertes, with the support of Ms Deanna Chesterton and Ms Amy Longden.
Presented by Sustainability Victoria, the ResourceSmart Schools Awards celebrate primary and secondary schools that are leading the way in creating more sustainable communities and environmental practices. Box Hill High School was honoured to be recognised alongside many inspiring schools from across the state.
The Curriculum Leadership School of the Year award acknowledges the Sustainability Club’s work in documenting and showcasing how sustainability is taught and put into practice across a wide range of subjects throughout the school. This whole-school approach reflects our belief that empowering students with the knowledge and skills to make environmentally responsible choices is essential for the future.
Four student Sustainability Club members and two staff representatives attended the awards ceremony at the MCG on Thursday 11 June, where they also explored an inspiring sustainability expo featuring innovative projects from schools across Victoria.
From reducing canteen waste and recycling plastics to cutting electricity usage, fundraising through Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme and creating biodiverse green spaces, the expo highlighted the many ways schools are making a positive environmental impact.
As part of the award, Box Hill High School has received a grant that will support future Sustainability Club initiatives and help drive our journey towards becoming a 5-Star ResourceSmart School.
