Pre-requisites for VCE Subjects for 2010

The main purpose of prerequisites is to encourage students to develop a strong work ethic before they commence Units 3 and 4 subjects and to discourage the belief that the only results that are important are study scores and the ENTER. They will also be beneficial in that they encourage students to choose subjects in which they are more likely to succeed.

Whilst it is strongly recommended that students complete Units 1 and 2 of a particular subject before attempting Units 3 and 4, it is not a pre-requisite for all subjects.

Business: Legal Studies, Accounting, Economics and Business Management - Units 1 and 2
No prerequisites

C standard in assessment over the year
Consultation with teacher and parents required in other cases

Drama Units 1 & 2
No prerequisites

Food Technology Units 3 & 4
Must have at least Year 10 Food Tech

Information Technology
No prerequisites

LOTE
Satisfactory completion of Units 1 and 2 (German)
Teacher recommendation for first language Chinese

General Mathematics Units 1 and 2
Mathematical Methods Units 1 and 2
Advanced General Mathematics Units 1 and 2
Teacher recommendation

Further Mathematics Units 3 and 4
Pass in any Yr 11 Maths subject

Mathematical Methods Units 3 and 4
Pass Methods 1 and 2 and pass exam
Teacher recommendation

Specialist Mathematics Units 3 and 4
Achieve a ‘B’ in Advanced General Maths
Teacher recommendation

Music Units 1 & 2
Students must have played an instrument and had lessons for 3 years

Music Solo Performance 3 and 4
Must satisfactorily complete Units 1 and 2
Students must have played an instrument and had lessons for 3 years
All students including singing and guitar must have a private teacher
Piano students must be at Grade 6 level or above
C standard in assessment over the year

Science: Chemistry, Physics and Biology - Units 1 and 2
Need to have completed 2 semesters of Science
C standard in assessment over the year
Teacher recommendation may be used when above conditions not met
