Enrichment

enrichmentBox Hill High School is proud of the many awards its students and staff have gained. In addition, we encourage a general attitude of excellence in all endeavours that students pursue.

Student Leadership

Opportunities provided at the school to allow students to develop their leadership skills:

  • Prefects at Box Hill High School play an important part in school life as mentors and role models and in assisting staff to ensure a secure, well-ordered and happy environment for all students. The prefects are final-year VCE students who are elected by students in Years 11 and 12, and by staff.
  • Student Representative Council which enables student participation from all levels in school affairs. Elected representatives of each form meet regularly at Student Representative Council meetings to discuss School related issues and provide feedback to the Principal and School Council. Information is posted on student noticeboards and presented at School Assemblies. Through this program students become increasingly aware of the operation of the school and its administrative structure. Those involved benefit through their contribution to the decision making processes in the School as well as gaining confidence in their ability to manage change.
  • House Captain positions for our sporting houses who are elected by all members of the four sports houses. They are responsible for organising all inter-house competitions and contribute substantially to the sporting spirit and organisation of the school.
  • Peer Support Leaders are senior students trained by our Welfare Officer to run activities over eight weeks of Term 1 which support and guide our Year 7 students.
  • Music Captains who show excellence in the discipline and actively contribute to musical enrichment activities within the school.
  • Technology Captains who maintain computer, network and sound systems within the school.
  • Resource Centre Monitors are students across all year levels who make themselves invaluable in the daily running of library services.

Enrichment projects closely linked to curriculum are:

  • School Tours are run every year. Students have had the opportunity to go to Tasmania, Kakadu and Kangaroo Island. The current school tour is a Study of Society and Environment Tour to Canberra and is taken by all Year 9 students.
  • School Trips to both China and Germany are organised by the language faculty which are fully accompanied by the language teachers and are designed not only to enhance the language ability of their students but also to immerse them in the culture.
  • An active Camping Program. Each camp is designed to provide students with valuable experience and assist in their physical and social development. Traditionally, camps such as the bike camp to central Victoria, the surf camp at Inverloch and the horse riding camp, have been popular end of year activities which bring together students from all age groups.
  • Ski Camp is held during Term 3 at Bogong Outdoor Education Centre. The students ski at Falls Creek.

Debutante Ball

Every second year, the stars come out to shine at this most anticipated event on the senior school calendar. Students train under professional ballroom dancers to produce an accomplished and stylish presentation for their parents and friends. All the preparation and effort in the production of this night is student centred. A cohesive group of students act as a management committee in conjunction with teacher advice and support. This night is always an uplifting experience for our students and their families.

Valedictory Dinner

This formal function is held at the end of every year to celebrate with parents and friends the successes of the Year 12 students. It serves as an acknowledgement of the school career of each student and is an event at which all students and parents feel a sense of accomplishment.

Awards Night

A formal Awards Night is held in December each year. Students are recognised at this ceremony for outstanding achievements during the year. A number of musical and other items are presented by students. This evening is always an uplifting finale to the school year.
