Friends and Fellow Travellers Week

.Friends and Fellow Travellers Week is running from 18th to 22nd May and is dedicated to promoting the values of respect, tolerance, kindness and empathy.  Box Hill High School encourages all students to enjoy positive and cooperative relationships with other students and teachers and for them to strive to make the school a fun and safe environment. The weeks activities include Singstar fun, photo scavenger hunt, IDAHOT Day (against homophobia), community banner painting, trivia competition, Year 8 Wellbeing day, staff and student sports competition, International free dress day (gold coin donation required), speed-friending and movie rooms.

CONGRATULATIONS MUNA PARTICIPANTS!

.Congratulations to Max Hoddinott, Alannah Stewart, Jordan Esh and Jared Turnley who recently competed at the Rotary Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) at Parliament House.  MUNA simulates the workings of the United Nations Assembly by having teams of two or three senior students representing  a particular U.N. country in debates on matters of world political and social concerns.  The teams impressed other countries, their supporters and all the rotarians with their diplomacy, wide global knowledge and persistence in getting the Secretary General dismissed.  Well done students!

Debating Team Success!

.The Box Hill High School Debating Team were once again successful in their efforts. The issues debated were relevant to Indigenous Australians, with 3 teams coming home with a win.  Alannah Stewart, Daisy Wong and Nazish Jindani were each awarded Best Speaker of their debate for their fantastic efforts, and their team mates backed them up with brilliant supporting speeches. Well done to all students on achieving great results!

Rotary Club of Forest Hill Youth Community Service Award

.Congratulations to Thomas Yakubowski on winning the inaugural Rotary Club of Forest Hill Youth Community Service Award for his contributions to the school community over the last 18 months.  Thomas is a Class Captain, works hard as a dedicated Tower Leader on the SRC, offers help and support to teachers and has also achieved great results academically in a number of his classes. Parent Information Forum - Impact of Video Games on Children and Young People

 

The City of Whitehorse will be hosting a Parent Information Forum about the impact of video games on children and young people on Thursday, 11th June at 7.30pm. .A huge congratulations to our many debaters who competed in the first debating round of 2015. With 5 teams in the competition, Box Hill High School came away with 3 wins against Camberwell Girls Grammar and Blackburn High School. A special congratulations also to those debaters who gave this a go for the first time. Well done everybody!

Swimming & Diving

.Students of the Box Hill High School swimming and diving teams recently competed in the Eastern and Metropolitan Region finals and achieved some outstanding results. Students won in 12 events with 10 students going on to compete in the State Championships and one student also competing in the National Championships in Term 2.  This is a fantastic achievement, well done to everybody and best of luck in the State and National Championships!

Box Hill High School's Swimming Squad achieved fantastic results at the Whitehorse Division Swim meet.  The squad had 7 out of 12 age group champions and our divers placed 1st and 2nd in their age groups respectively.  Our relay teams also set two new Eastern region records which is a wonderful achievement.
